He was born in Norfolk and was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he was on the Male Usher Board and was a former custodian. He was also a former part-time employee of The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star and a retired driver for the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Alma Charity; one daughter, Jacqueline Hill of Norfolk; one brother, Orgden D. Charity of Norfolk; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Jerusalem Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Venable. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Graves Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. The family will assemble at 5424 Berry Hill Road for a processional to the church.
