A native of Norfolk, he was the widower of Virgie H. Charity and retired as a mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years of service. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Norfolk, and Masonic Lodge Excelsior No. 87 P.H. Survivors include two sons, Anthony Charity Jr. of Norfolk, Leonard Charity and wife Christine of Charlotte, N.C.; a stepson, Linwood Rodgers; 17 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy and George Charity; sons, Clarence Charity, Linwood Charity and Angelo Charity. A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Jerusalem Baptist Church, 718 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, by the Rev. H. Carlyle Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery . There will be a wake Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.
