The Virginian Pilot Friday December 5, 1947
Joseph Artemus Charles, 75, husband of Mrs. Ettilena Beck Charles and son of 
the late John E. and Helen Kitchen Charles, a native of Southampton County and 
a resident of Norfolk for 45 years, died at a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 
1:20 a.m.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joseph Edward Charles, Wilbur 
Beck Charles and Everett Winston Charles, all of Norfolk; two grandchildren and 
a step-grandchild,.
Mr. Charles was a member of the Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewell and Williamson Funeral Home 
tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
