Norfolk - John Caswell Chavis, 73, of 907 Denison avenue, died Feb. 3 in a
hospital in Raleigh, NC.

A native of Raleigh, he was a deacon of Bethel Baptist Church here. Chavis was
the son of John Chavis Sr. and Mrs. Hastine Chavis and husband of the late
Louise Chavis.

A daughter, Mrs. Mary Wells of Norfolk, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Canady of
Raleigh, are his survivors.

A funeral service will be held Sunday in Bethel Baptist Church at 1 p.m.
arranged by Moseley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
