A native of Spout Springs, VA, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Beulah Cheatham. He was the son of the late Albert Cheatham and Mrs. Mattie Cheatham. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad after 40 years. He was a member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as past Chairman of Male Usher Board, active in the Sunday school,member of Eastern Light Lodge No. 4 F. & M. for 59 years, he was also a veteran of World War One. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Stiff, of Norfolk, VA, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Elnora Green, of New Orleans; John L. Cheatham II, and Calvin Stiff, Jr., of Norfolk, VA. A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 28, in Bank Street Baptist Church, by Rev. James R. Griffin. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with Masonic and Military rites. Elton Funeral Home had charge.
