The find was made by John T. Newberry. The body was floating under the overhangings of the Franklin. He towed the body to the plant of the Norfolk Marine Railway, where an inquest was conducted by Coroner Kight, but the verdict of the jury was reserved until a later date. The body was found within a few feet of where the launch was towed and raised out of the water on the deck of the Red Doonme, the navy yard derrick. The remains were turned over to Funeral Director J.R. Williams for funeral and interment, which took place yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock. Captain Cherry was a native of Virginia, was born July 3, 1874 and was in the 37th year of his age. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Rosa A. Cherry, and five children, Sidney Cherry, aged 15 years; Mary Cherry, 13 years; Lillian Cherry, 10 years; Vernon Cherry, 8 years and Linwood Cherry, 22 months. He also leaves one sister, Miss Fannie L Cherry, of Princess Anne County, and three brothers, W.W. Cherry, Norfolk; P.L. Cherry, Portsmouth and W.S. Cherry, of Berkley. The funeral was conducted from the family residence, No. 6 Irving street, by Rev. W.T. Green, pastor of Memorial M.E. Church. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Order of Maccabees, a delegation of which attended the funeral. These gentlemen acted as pall-bearers: Dr. W.B. Ashburn, John M Gibbs, L.F. Borrowdale, S.W. Swartz, G.W. Swarthout and R.B. Duncan, the first named being from the Maccabees and the five latter named from the Fosburgh Lumber Company, which concern employed the men.
