Norfolk Virginian December 22, 1896

Mr. Stephen H. Cherry died at 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the residence of 
his sister, Mrs. A.E. Batten.  The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. today from 
the Queen Street M.E. Church.  Mr. Cherry was 44 years of age and a member of 
Black Hawk Tribe No. 57, I.O.R.M.

The funeral of Mr. Stephen H. Cherry occurred yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock 
from Queen Street M.E. Church, Rev. J.W. Moore, the pastor, officiating. The 
interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.  A large number of friends were present, 
including quite a number of members of the Black Hawk Tribe of Red Men, to which 
the deceased belonged.
