Virginian-Pilot, July 6, 1918
The death of Mrs. Mary A. Cherry, widow of James L. Cherry, occurred yesterday 
afternoon at her residence on Riverview Avenue, following a lingering illness. 
Mrs. Cherry, who was a native of Norfolk, was in her 58th year, and was well 
and favorably known. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. S. R. Downey, and 
two brothers, Charles and Elmer Wheeler, all of this city. Funeral services 
will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Monday at 10 o'clock, Rev. T. 
E. Waters, officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery.
