He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Norfolk, the son of the late Thelma Fulford Cheshire and Edward Walsh Cheshire. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Newlin Cheshire. Survivors include his seven children: Kathy Cheshire Shriver, Edward C. Cheshire Jr., Glenn B. Cheshire, Mark N. Cheshire, Vickie C. Warren, Lee P. Cheshire, and Patricia Ellen Cheshire; his sister, Katherine "Sue" Cheshire Tyler of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; his 12 grandchildren: Dennis, Shawn, Samuel, Maxwell, Della, Gray, John, and Daniel Cheshire, Carolyn and Elizabeth Lanier, and Matthew and Noah Warren; his sister-in- law, Linda Barclay; and brother-in-law, Jim Newlin. Edward graduated from Maury High School and attended William & Mary's Norfolk branch for two years. He served in the U.S. Army's 325 Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division from 1946-1948. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 38 years, retiring in 1992 as manager of Parts Control. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in New Life Providence Church, 1244 Thompkins Lane, Virginia Beach.
