Norfolk Ledger Dispatch January 2, 1954

Charles Chewning, 39, son of Charles Irving Chewning and the late Mrs. Catherine 
McNabb Chewning, a native of New York City and resident of Norfolk for 11 years, 
died at the residence, 810 East Main Street, yesterday at 4:05 p.m.
He is survived by his father, of Starkey and one brother, James E. Chewning, of 
San Antonio, Texas.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, where services will be 
held Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services 
will be held at the funeral apartments, Sunday night at 7:30 o'clock.

1954, at 4:05 a.m., CHARLES CHEWNING, son of Charles Irving Chewning and the 
late Mrs. Catherine McNabb Chewning, in the 40th year of his age. Services at 
the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, MONDAY MORNING at 11 
o’clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's 
Cemetery.
