NORFOLK - John Edward Claiborne Sr. of 928 Lasser Drive, the husband of Mrs.
Mayflower Claiborne, died Tuesday in a hospital.

A native of Norfolk, he was a son of Mrs. Martha Falks and the late Alfred
Claiborne.

He was a retired baker of Colonial Stores incorporated. He was a member of Shiloh
Baptist Church.

Besides his widow and mother, surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Shirley Jordan,
Mrs. Deloris Mayfield, Mrs. Barbara Cooper, Mrs. Velma Smith on Norfolk, and Mrs.
Romanza Minor of Houston, Tex.; a son, John E. Claiborne Jr., two sisters, Mrs.
Fannie Sawyer and Mrs. Martha Dodson, and a brother, Simon Claiborne, all of
Norfolk; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The body was taken to Graves Funeral Home.
