Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, January 1, 1999 
Douglas J. Clarke Jr., the son of the late Douglas J. Clarke Sr. and the late
Ruth B. Clarke , died in a local nursing home on Dec. 29, 1998.

Mr. Clarke was a member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
Mr. Clarke was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1941,
attended Virginia State College and graduated from Howard University in 1949.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He held
memberships in many organizations including Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Howard
University Alumni and was a 32nd-Degree Prince Hall Mason.

Mr. Clarke 's family includes one grandson, Donald; one granddaughter, Lynn; one
great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and many aunts and cousins.

A wake will held at Hale Funeral Home at 7 p.m. today. Final services will be
held at Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev.
James Edwards III will officiate. The family will assemble at 10:15 a.m. at the
funeral home for the procession to the church.
