Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, July 23, 2001 
CHESAPEAKE - Richard Derothy Clark Sr., of the 500 block of Dent Place, died
peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.

He was a native of Newton, Miss., and the son of the late Samuel Clark and
Mariah H. Clark Nelson. He was the husband of Pauline Lee Clark.

Mr. Clark attended the public schools of Newton and later entered the U.S. Navy.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired after 22 1/2
years, as a chief petty officer.

Mr. Clark was a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church and served as a
deacon as well as other forms of service to the church. He was a member of Fleet
Reserve and a volunteer at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Pauline Lee Clark of the
home; two daughters, Cheryl Y. Clark and Sharon Yvette Clark; two sons, Richard
D. Clark Jr. and his wife Vanessa and Reginald D. Clark and his wife Hilary. He
will also be sorely missed by seven grandchildren, Richard III, Alexandria,
Leah, Torrey, Monique, Tyler and Taylor; and several in-laws, other relatives
and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Calvary Baptist
Church, 813 Henry St., with the Rev. Dr. Johnnie L. White officiating. Burial
will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Riddick
Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
