VIRGINIA BEACH - James Albert Claverie, 78, passed away Feb. 13, 2003 in a local 
hospital.

A native of New Orleans, La., Mr. Claverie retired as a master chief petty officer 
in the United States Navy. He was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II, Korea and 
Vietnam, and a member of the Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel, the Fleet 
Reserve Association Branch No. 60 and the Gator Volksmarch Club. He was also a 
volunteer for 25 years with Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret O'Reilly Claverie; a daughter, Linda C. 
Morrison, and her husband, Frederick, of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, 
Leigh Winston of Chesapeake, Lewis E. Winston, III, and his wife, Kasha, of 
Germany and David Winston, of Newport News; and one great-grandchild, Lewis E. 
Winston, IV, of Germany.

A funeral Mass will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Little Creek Amphibious 
Base Chapel with Father Michael Diaz officiating. The burial will follow in St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Fleet Reserve Service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in 
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service with the 
family remaining until 9 p.m. to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial 
donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mid Atlantic, 2730 Ellsmere 
Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513. If you are planning to attend the funeral service on the 
base and do not have military ID, please contact the funeral home at 464-6221.
