Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, July 27, 1990 
Lula Askew Clemons, of the 2400 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd., a retired
private duty nurse, died July 25, 1990, in a nursing home.

Mrs. Clemons, a native of Robersonville, N.C., had retired after 50 years. She
was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was the widow of Theodore Clemons.

Survivors include a daughter, Elsie L. Exum of Norfolk; a son, Ruben Clemons of
Lorton, Va.; five sisters, Linnie B. Purvis of Chesapeake, Sadie Briley of
Baltimore, Elizabeth Askew of Stamford, Conn., and Mary Durham and Novella
Askew, both of Robersonville; a brother, Roy Askew of Williamston; seven
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in St. Mary's Church by the Rev.
Walter C. Barrett. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A Christian wake service
will be held at 7 p.m. today in Hale Funeral Home. Friends may join the family
at 885 Maymont Ave.
