Norfolk Virginian Pilot Saturday June 15, 1940
Mrs. Mary Siple Clendenning, aged 90, died yesterday afternoon at 1:30 
o'clock at the family residence in Mount Pleasant, Norfolk County, after an 
illness of a year.  She was a native of Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, and 
had made her home in this section 40 years.  She was a daughter of John and 
Eugenia Lawson Siple and widow of Walter Clendenning.  Her survivors are one 
daughter, Mrs. Simon Swartz, of Royal Oaks, Mich.; two sons, Arthur W. 
Clendenning, of Detroit and Frank R. Clendenning, of Fentress; one sister, 
Mrs. Maggie Morehouse, of Glendale, Calif.; two brothers, Allie Siple, of 
Woodstock, Ontario, and Beson Siple, of Berginville, Ontario; 11 
grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  
Mrs. Clendenning was a member of the Ancient Order of Gleaners of Clifford, 
Mich.
The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, Jackson and Jefferson 
streets, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow 
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Burial will be in the family plot in Magnolia 
Cemetery.
