The Norfolk Virginian Pilot September 22, 1940

Warren W. Clifton, aged 81, son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Martha Spruill 
Clifton, died at a local hospital Friday at midnight, after a long illness. He 
was a native of North Carolina, and had been a resident of Norfolk for 45 
years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Clifton; one son, John 
Clifton of Huntington, W.Va., and a daughter, Mrs. M.S. Cassidy, of Colorado.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Gregory 
Funeral Home, 3401 Granby Street. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
