A son of Martin W. and Elmira Pettit Cobb, he was a native of Elizabeth City, N.C. He spent his adult life as an employee of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and retired 15 years ago. After retirement, he was employed by the Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach, until compelled to quit work by his last illness. He was a member of St. Bride's Episcopal Church, Doric Lodge No. 44, and Ionic Chapter No. 46, A.F. & A.M. Besides his wife, Mrs. Iscar Creech Cobb, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. L.K. Dashiell and Mrs. Ivy B. Brown, of Norfolk; two sons, S. Simpson Cobb, Sr., of Norfolk, and Herman W. Cobb, of San Diego, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Adline Lewis, of Virginia Beach; two stepsons, Frederick Strickland, of Virginia Beach, and Harvey Strickland, of Wilson, N.C.; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where services will be held today at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
