Norfolk New Daily Pilot December 3, 1895
Mr. John (sic) Cochins, Superintendent of the Water Works at Farmville, Va., who 
attempted to take his life at that place two weeks ago, died at St. Vincent’s 
Hospital early Sunday morning. An inquest was begun yesterday morning but was 
postponed to 10 o’clock a.m. today on account of the absence of witnesses.
Mr. Cochins was 26 years of age and was a native of Scotland. He came to this 
country about four years ago and for two years was employed by the Norfolk and 
Western railway in this city.
The funeral was held in the parlors of St. Vincent’s yesterday afternoon at 4 
o’clock and the interment was in Elmwood.
