NORFOLK - Susan Virginia Greenland Cofer, 88, formerly of Little Bay Avenue, 
passed away Jan. 10, 2006, in her residence at Oakdale Heights Assisted Living 
in Virginia Beach. She was the retired registrar in the Bureau of Vital Records 
Department with the Virginia State Health Department in Norfolk, where she 
worked for 35 years. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Annie Orr 
Greenland and Alfred Herbert Greenland and was the widow of Joseph Anthony 
Cofer. One of Mrs. Cofer’s great loves was being a volunteer at the Norfolk 
Botanical Gardens.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Audrey C. Wilson of Norfolk; two 
sons, Joseph Herbert Cofer of Suffolk and Shepherd Anthony Cofer of 
Fredericksburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cofer will be buried privately with her husband in Elmwood Cemetery. The 
family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Norfolk SPCA, 916 
Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23504 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Cox 
Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family
