The many friends of Mr. William Walter Coke in this city and vicinity were much pained yesterday to learn of his death, which took place at his residence in Brambleton ward, Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock, in the 65th year of his age. He was born near Williamsburg and, when quite a young man, moved to Princess Anne county to practice law. There he married Lucy, the daughter of Henry Cornick, Sr. After his marriage, he took to farming, which he continued until 1881, when he moved to this city and began again the practice of law. Ill health overtook him and he returned to his farm and remained for a year and then again returned to Norfolk. From this time to his death, he was confined to his bed by partial paralysis which finally ended his life. He was a brother to Governor Richard Coke, of Texas, where he has also a son practicing law. His wife survives him as do, in addition to the son mentioned above, three daughters and a son, the latter not yet grown. His funeral will take place from St. Peter’s P. E. Church today at 11 a.m. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/norfolkcity/obits/c/coke14956nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/vafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
