The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark  July 2, 1935


Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, aged 85, widow of Charles Coleman and daughter of 
the late Robert T. and Jane Fields Russell, died at the residence of her son-
in-law, R.E. Gray, 413 Thirty-Fifth Street, last night at 10:15 o’clock, after 
an illness of 13 months. She was a native of Hampton and had been a resident 
of Norfolk for 56 years.
Mrs. Coleman is survived by two daughter, Mrs. R.E. Gray and Mrs. J.W. Sadler, 
both of Norfolk; two sons, Charles W. Coleman of Philadelphia, and William M. 
Coleman, of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Walter and Miss Rebecca Russell, 
both of Hampton; one brother Benjamin Russell , of Hampton; four grandchildren 
and a number of nieces and nephews. 
Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Colonial Avenue Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3 
o’clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
