She was born in Roanoke, Virginia and raised in the Baptist faith. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1975 and taught Junior High School science in Louisa County, Virginia and in Norfolk until her illness caused her to retire in 1982. She then used her time and remaining energy to help others. Until recently, she was an active volunteer at WHRO Public Television and Radio Stations, working the telephones for their fund-raising drives. She also read to the blind via their special radio network. She was a member of the Tidewater Chapter of Virginia Tech Alumni Association, participated in numerous fund-raising events for the group’s scholarship awards program. She was a supporter of the Norfolk SPCA, the Union Mission, the Salvation Army and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was also on the board of the Endependence Center, Inc., of Norfolk. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Gladys Mitchell; paternal grandparents, Billy and Virginia Plymale, and her mother-in- law, Jeanne Parker Collins. Surviving: husband, Paul T. Collins III; parents, Dorothy M. Plymale and Thomas W. Plymale of Huddleston, Virginia; sister, Debra K. Plymale of Huddleston; brother, Roger A. Plymale of Winfield; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dedicated friends. She leaves behind her loving dear cats, Jasper Jane, Floppy, Millie, Tennessee, Dakota, Georgia, and Shiloh - they and Paul were her babies. Wanda will be greatly missed by all who knew her and those whose lives she touched. A special thanks goes to the doctors and nurses who cared for Wanda during her illness. Thanks to three dear friends who have provided unwavering support through this difficult time. A memorial service was held Tuesday, November 30, 2004, in the Church of the Good Shepherd by the Rev. Robert A. Davenport. An additional memorial service was held December 5, 2004 at Staunton Baptist Church, Huddleston, Virginia. Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
