She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 28, 1953 to the late L. Wayne and Mary Hamilton. Diane was a devoted wife and very proud mother. She spent her entire life giving and bringing joy to others. As a brilliant obstetrician, she helped bring thousands of miracles into this world. She touched the lives of so many individuals — from family and friends, to patients and colleagues. Diane will be dearly missed by all. Diane attended St. Francis College, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in pre- med. She later obtained her Master's Degree in Public Health from University of Pittsburgh. After living briefly in Palm Beach and St. Petersburg, FL, she relocated with her husband, Dana, to Norfolk, VA. Upon relocating to Norfolk in the 1980s, Diane attended Eastern Virginia Medical School where she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as earned her medical degree. In 1996, Diane opened up her own medical practice, "Diane L. H. Coltrin MD PC," where she focused on gynecology and primarily obstetrics. She continued to do so despite being diagnosed with advanced stage renal failure and required daily treatments of dialysis. Despite her devotion to her practice and patients, Diane was an attentive, loving and devoted wife and mother. Her happiest moment was bringing her own daughter, Elizabeth, home from the hospital. Diane was active in every aspect of her daughter's life, and the one thing that she didn't like about her job was when it interfered with spending time with Elizabeth. Diane loved to travel with her family and friends. She also had a great love of gardening; spending time in her garden tending to her flowers and plants brought her great joy. Diane also enjoyed the companionship of the many members of the Coltrin Zoo — the family's two dogs, Nana and Bentley; and five cats, Casper, Claude, Piplette, Toulouse and Diane's very special Misha. Diane is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dana Gene Coltrin, originally of Hollidaysburg, PA. She is also survived by her one and only very special daughter, Elizabeth Anne Coltrin, of Norfolk, VA; her brother, L. Wayne Hamilton, of Lake Mary, FL; and numerous other well-loved relatives and friends. Diane will be remembered for her brilliant mind, generosity, and selfless nature; for being a loving mother and wife; as a helpful, caring friend to many; and her personal joy of helping to bring countless new lives into this world. The family would like to thank the staff and healthcare providers at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and Sentara Heart Hospital for the care and support they gave to Diane and her family. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in the Norfolk chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave., with the Rev. Canon Win Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation Inc., 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
