The Virginian Pilot Sunday July 18, 1943
Mrs. Mary Edna Dougherty Cook, 44, wife of Elmo Lee Cook, and daughter of the 
late Thomas J. and Mrs. Margaret Anne Wheeler Dougherty, died at a local 
hospital last night at 9:30 o'clock. She was a native of Newport News, and had 
been a resident of Norfolk for 30 years, residing at 800 Gates avenue at the 
time of her death.

Besides her husband, she is survived by four sisters, Mrs. L. L. Rowe, of 
Portsmouth; Miss Gertrude Dougherty and Mrs. Otto Walker, both of Norfolk, and 
Mrs. Harvey Eure, of Portsmouth, and two brothers, Francis A. Dougherty, of 
Norfolk, and Charles Dougherty, of Phoenix, Ariz.

The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial 
avenue, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which Mrs. Cook was a member, for 
funeral service Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments 
tonight at 8 o'clock.
