Norfolk - A funeral for Mrs. Ruth Eleanor (Nelson)Cooke of 944 Roundbay Road, 
Apt. 7C, who died Thursday night when her car was struck by a train, will be 
held Monday at 3:30 p.m. in New Calvary Baptist Church.

Officiating will be Dr. Milton A. Reid.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with 
Jones Funeral Home in charge.

A Wake service will be held Sunday night from 8 to 9 in New Calvary Church.

Mrs. Cooke, a native of Norfolk, was the widow of Thomas B. Cooke Jr.  She had 
taught in the Norfolk public schools more than 30 years, the last 12 at 
Larchmont Elementary.

She was a member of the National and Virginia Education associations, and the 
Education Association of Norfolk.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was chairperson of the 
Adult Activities Club;  member of the Commission on Early Childhood Development, 
coordinator of the Junior Church;  secretary of the board of directors of New 
Calvary Towers;  past secretary of the Every Member Enlistment team;  and member 
of the Commission of Missions and Commission on Education.

She also was a member of the Players Guild, the Astor Social Club, Prudential 
Civic and Social Club, and Unique Pokeno Club.

Survivors include three cousins, Pedro Abad of Norfolk, Mrs. Cecilia Canaday of 
Portsmouth, and Mrs. Lennice Brehon of New York.
