COOKE - At Nimrod Hall, Bath County, Va., August 26th, 1894, CHARLES KLEIN 
COOKE, formerly of Norfolk, late of St. Louis.

One of Norfolk's oldest and most prominent families has recently suffered a 
great loss in the death of a beloved member. Mr. Charles Klein Cooke, formerly 
of Norfolk, but for many years past of St. Louis, departed this life at Nimrod 
Hall, Bath County, Va., last Sunday morning. Mr. Cooke was the son of Mordecai 
Cooke, Esq., a talented lawyer, who died in Norfolk in 1855 and his mother was 
before her marriage Miss Sarah Klein. He had for some time been in failing 
health and went to the mountains in the hopes of recuperating his strength.  The 
education of Mr. Cooke was begun at the favorite school of the "Point Boys," 
kept by Miss Serena Holden, and when finished education he was employed in the 
transportation business until he went to St. Louis.
In the latter city he married Miss Celeste Von Pool, a highly esteemed lady, who 
with seven children survives him. His immediate family in this city consists of 
his mother, Mrs. Sarah K. Cooke, his sisters, Mrs. George McP. Batte and Mrs. 
Jas. C. Byrnes, wife of Dr. Byrnes, U.S.N., and his brothers, Mr. Henry Cooke, 
of St. Louis and Mr. Willoughby T. Cooke. The old friends of "Charlie" Cooke 
remember him with affection as a true hearted, manly and intelligent boy and 
man, and sympathize deeply with his family in their affliction.
The remains upon their arrival in the city at 12 o'clock were immediately 
conveyed to Elmwood Cemetery and interred, with the Rev. Robert Gatewood as 
officiating clergyman. The pallbearers were Messrs. R.A. Dobie, Henry Walke, 
John Vermillion, George McIntosh, R. Devereux Doyle, L.W. Tazewell, Dr. Geo. H. 
Rose and Paymaster Wm. W. Galt, U.S.N.
