C. COSTEN, 72, FORMER POSTMASTER AT BUELL, DIES Lawrenceson Clifford Costen, 72, Southside merchant who was postmaster at Buell for 40 years, prior to his retirement, died of a heart attack Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Whaleyville, he had lived in this section 50 years. His late parents were William Emory and Mrs. Loretta Parker Costen. He was a member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church and served as superintendent of the Sunday School 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Niven Costen; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Kelley, of Portlock, and Mrs. Myra Kibler of Gulfport, Miss.; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Milteer and Mrs. Alvirta Sparkman, of Portlock, and Mrs. D.C. Johnson, of Portsmouth; one brother, Clyde E, Costen, of South Norfolk, and three grandchildren. The body was removed to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. The body will be at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
