Virginian Pilot November 6, 1911

Samuel J. Cotton died at St. Vincent's Hospital yesterday afternoon at 2:45 
o'clock after an illness of several months. He was 50 years old. He is survived 
by a widow and two sisters, the latter being Mrs. T.J. Dalton and Mrs. William 
H. White.
Mr. Cotton was a former well known resident of Norfolk, but for the last year or 
so has been living at Pine Beach. The time for the funeral will be announced 
later.

The funeral of Samuel J. Cotton was held from the apartments of Funeral Director 
H. D. Oliver at 11 o’clock yesterday and was conducted by Rev. Father E. J. 
Walsh, of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There were handsome floral tributes. The 
interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: J. A. 
Butt, W. H. Hargrove, H. F. Moore, H. M. Duke, Frank Ferguson and C. H. Davis.
