Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, April 9, 1997 
Helen Hicks Couther, formerly of Grayson St., died April 5, 1997.

A native of Norfolk, she was a retired self-employed beautician. She was a
member of New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk, and Ruby Westwood Missionary
Society and senior choir.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth Hicks Holmes of Virginia Beach; a brother,
Mr. Lankford M. Hicks of Bowie, Md.; two special nieces, Dr. Muriel H. Chasten
of Chesapeake, Mrs. Joycelyn Hicks Johnson of Norfolk; two special nephews, Dr.
Bert Holmes Jr. of Virginia Beach, Mr. Harvey S. Hicks of Richmond; and a host
of other nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in New Central Baptist Church,
Norfolk, by the Rev. James Messick. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery ,
Norfolk. The family will receive friends at 2910 Beechmont Ave., Norfolk. A
funeral procession will begin there at noon today. Chatman Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
