A History of Norfolk Virginia by Harrison Burton
November 20th, Dr. Jonathan Cowdery, died, aged eighty-five years.He was the 
oldest surgeon and the oldest officer in the U. S. Navy." He was born in 
Massachusetts, but came to Norfolk to reside about fifty years, previous to his 
death.
