Virginian-Pilot November 19, 1938
David W. Cox, aged 63, husband of Mrs. Dona Victoria Wayne Cox, died suddenly in 
New York City, Thursday morning, at 8:20 o’clock. He was a son of the late Jacob 
and Mrs. Mary Cox, and a native of Shawboro, N.C. Mr. Cox was a marine engineer. 
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Emily Marie Cox Elks, of 
Chocowinity, N.C; two half-brothers, Hal and Jacob Cox, and a half-sister, Mrs. 
G. C. Dowdy, all of Elizabeth City, N. C. The body will arrive in Norfolk this 
morning over the Pennsylvania Railroad at 8:50 o'clock.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Derry 
Funeral Chapel, Colley and Harrington avenues. The Rev. E. P. Miner, rector of 
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
