A native of Norfolk, she was the widow of William R. Cox and a daughter of James L. and Mrs. Mary Bryan Belote. She was the mother of Lawrence M. Cox, executive director of the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. A charter member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension, she taught Sunday school many years and was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Episcopal Church Home of Norfolk. She formerly was active in Virginia Chapter 22 of Order of the Eastern Star and Pickett Buchanan Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy, of which she twice was president, historian and educational chairman, and lateIy an honorary member. She had been corresponding secretary and education chairman of the Virginia Division of UDC. Besides Lawrence Cox, surviving are another son, William R. Cox Jr. of Lucaya, Grand Bahama Islands; two daughters, Mrs. George R. Burroughs of Arlington and Mrs. Charles E. Miller of Dallas, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Harry M. Thompson of Norfolk; and 10 grandchildren. The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to Elmwood Cemetery for a funeral service today at noon by the Rev. Macon B. Walton of Episcopal Church of the Ascension. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the building fund of Church of the Ascension.
