Norfolk Journal and Guide, May 2, 1970
Norfolk - Mrs. Mary E. Cox, of 1520 Virginia Beach boulevard, received last 
rites Sunday in St. Paul Church of God in Christ by Elder James A. Gatlin.  
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Hale Funeral Home in charge.

The Durham, NC, native was  a daughter of the late James L. and and Mrs. 
Hattie White Barden.  She was a member of the missionary circle at Tabernacle 
Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include one son, Leander W. Godfrey of Norfolk;  one daughter, Mrs. 
Dorothy M. Everett of Norfolk;  and two brothers, Alfonsa Barden and Joseph 
Barden, both of Norfolk;  15 grandchildren;  and four great-grandchildren.
