A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angie Fitzpatrick. She was married to Michael J. Cox for 35 years, who predeceased her. Barbara was a 1966 graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School. While raising three children and working part-time, she began attending Old Dominion University, ultimately graduating summa cum laude with a degree in secondary education in 1979. She was a teacher and librarian for over 20 years at several Norfolk schools including Norfolk Catholic, Maury and Granby High Schools. She especially enjoyed being a school librarian and was proud of her contributions modernizing Granby's library and multimedia capabilities during its renovation in the late 1990s. Barbara was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Barbara grew up in Ocean View and spent most of her life enjoying its beaches with her family and friends. She is survived by her three children, Tracey Cox Hasick and her husband Dale, of Norfolk, Michael Cox of Atlanta and Carl Cox of Norfolk; four granddaughters, Taylor Delaune, Ella Cox, Olivia Cox and Lauren Cox; her sister, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, and nephew, Blair McGinnis, as well as numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Regis Williams. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel, Saturday April 3, 2021, from 1 to 2 P.M. A memorial service will be held beginning at 2:00P.M.
