Cox Sr., 64, of 6209 Colgate Ave., a native of Norfolk and the husband of Kathryn Aloisio Cox, died Sunday in a hospital. He was a retired, 20-year employee of Lake Taylor Hospital and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a past grand commander of Padul Caravan 69, Order of the Alhambra; a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 3548; a past president of St. Pius Men’s Club; and a member of the American Association of Hospital Engineers. He had played basketball in the Twin City League as a youth and had played on the Norfolk Orioles baseball team. Other survivors include a daughter, Jean Mairee Vigneault of Norfolk; three sons, George W. Cox Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Michael J. Cox and Paul V. Cox of Norfolk; two sisters, Margaret L. Cox and Mary Ellen Cox of Norfolk; and nine grandchildren. A joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be said at 7:30 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk. The family will be at his home. Memorial donations may be made to Padul Caravan 69, Order of the Alhambra, for the benefit of retarded children.
