Born July 3, 1935, to John and Sarah Cimmino in Norfolk, Virginia, where she lived the majority of her life before moving to Chesapeake, Virginia, in her later years. After graduating from Maury High School, Johanna began working for the city of Norfolk in the High Constable’s Office as a secretary, where she met the love of her life, James S. Craig, Jr., whom she called “Craig”, and who at the time was a Norfolk Police Officer. Johanna loved the beach, and cherished the time spent most weekends camping on the sands of Carolla, NC, with her husband, Craig, their son, Jim, and close friends. It was there that she and Craig built their beach home and retreated to for weeks at a time enjoying walks on the beach, watching the wild horses roam, collecting shells, and many fun times with family. In the 1980’s, Johanna was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in downtown, Norfolk, Virginia, where she lent her beautiful voice to the choir. She also made sure that the choir robes were meticulously ironed and ready for the whole choir to wear every Sunday morning. After retiring from the city of Norfolk, she spent much of her time working in her yard, which she had a passion for. She was also a member of the Garden Club in her neighborhood. Johanna enjoyed neighborhood morning walks with her dear friends, sharing stories and laughter along the way. Johanna was known to her family and friends as Jo and as Nana to her 4 grandchildren.
