He was born in Portsmouth to the late James Stanton Craig Sr. and Vivian Curling Craig . Mr. Craig joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 in September 1943. He served till May 1946 and served during World War II. Mr. Craig went to work for the Norfolk Police Department in 1949 and retired as a sergeant in 1977. Mr. Craig was the owner of Stage Hands Unlimited from 1980 to 1991. He is survived by his wife, Johanna Cimmino Craig; daughter, Lynn Craig Rose (Dan); son, James Stanton Craig III (Tammy); four grandchildren, Eric, Alison, Morgan and Justin; great-granddaughter, Jaca; sister, Norma Irby; sister-in-law, Clara Leddy; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Craig was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Rabeau. The family will receive family and friends for visitation at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, Monday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. Upon his request, Mr. Craig will be cremated and have a private graveside burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery officiated by Father R. Stephen Powers of Saint Bride's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 500 Plume St. East, Suite 110, Norfolk, VA 23510.
