He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1984 after 27 years of exemplary service as a letter carrier in the Ocean View section of Norfolk. He was a veteran of the Maritime Services and the U.S. Army. Mr. Credle was born on Jan. 12, 1927 in New Holland, N.C. He was raised in Norfolk and attended Norfolk Public Schools. Mr. Credle was married to Rosalyn Virginia Johnson on Aug. 14, 1953 and this union produced two daughters. He was a warm and loving family man - a dedicated husband and father. Known as an avid sports fan and a pet lover, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and collecting interesting items. He was a delight to his friends, a joy to his family, and a source of good will to the stranger - a pleasant, loving person who stole the hearts of those who knew him. Mr. Credle is survived by his faithful and dedicated wife of 47 years, Rosalyn Johnson Credle; two daughters, Valda Credle Dixon of Virginia Beach and Janice Kay Credle of Silver Spring, Md.; three grandchildren, Rodney, Tiffany and Krystal Brehon; sister-in-law, Elsie J. Russell; brother-in-law, J. Howard Johnson and wife, Fraitus; brother-in-law, Kearney Stephens; sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Maggie T. Credle; a brother, Atkins Credle; and his oldest daughter, Linda Goodman Brehon. A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Graves Funeral Home, Norfolk, by the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the residence.
