Crockett, 89, retired lumberman and business man of Bainbridge Boulevard, South Norfolk, died in a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 5:30 a.m. For 25 years the president of the Crockett Lumber and Pile Company, he retired some years ago. He then operated the Dixie Tourist Camp at Fort Pierce, Fla., continuing operations until 1938. Despite his advanced years he was active until two years ago. He recovered from a severe fall several years ago. He was a member of the Portlock Methodist Church and had been active in religious work while in Fort Pierce. He resided with his daughter, Mrs. D.M. Johnstone. A native of York County, he was a son of the late Joseph Bailey Crockett and Mrs. Catherine Ironmonger Crockett. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. D.M. Johnstone; a son, Harry T. Crockett, both of Norfolk, and three grandchildren, Miss Frieda Ann Johnstone and Miss Janice Crockett, of Norfolk, and Daniel H. Johnstone, of Miami, Fla., and a great- grandchild, Daniel Leslie Johnstone, of Miami. The body was removed to the Sykes Funeral Home Berkley where funeral services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
