Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, page Three, Wednesday, January 18, 1939
Mrs. Bettie Hart Cromwell, aged, 68, widow of Joshua R. Cromwell and daughter of 
Dr. Titus and Mrs. Elizabeth Gracie Hart, died at her residence, No. 4, 
Westmount Apartments, 3511 Omohundro avenue, yesterday afternoon at 5:20 
o’clock. Mrs. Cromwell was a native of Trenton, N.C., and a resident of Norfolk 
for 37 years. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Fred Haycox, of Virginia 
Beach, and Mrs. Charles Arnold, of Norfolk; four sons, Beverly, Rufus, Frank and 
Robert Cromwell, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Richard 
Cromwell, of Norfolk.

Services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial avenue, Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, with the Rev. Fred R. 
Chenault, D.D., pastor of the Park Place M. E. Church, of which Mrs. Cromwell 
was a member, and the Rev. W. H. T. Squires, D.D., Presbyterian clergyman, 
officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
