ALVERT V. CROSBY, 72, SURGEON AND OBSTETRICIAN NORFOLK - Dr. Albert Vincent Crosby, 72, of 7909 North Shore Road, surgeon and obstetrician, died Tuesday at 3 p.m. in De Paul Hospital after suffering a coronary attack earlier in the day while driving his car on West Little Creek Road near Courtland Place. Dr. Crosby was on his way to his office on Newport Avenue near De Paul Hospital at the time he suffered the attack. Patrolman B. R. Barrington said Dr. Crosby's car went over a curb, struck a mailbox and street sign and collided with a stopped car owned by W. D. Hollis, 20 of the Norfolk Naval Station. Dr. Crosby was taken to the hospital shortly after the accident which occurred at 9:05 a.m., Barrington said, and was admitted for a coronary condition. A native of Norfolk, Dr. Crosby was a son of Andrew Patrick and Mrs. Ellen Albert Crosby and the husband of the late Marion Parry Crosby, prominent in Norfolk garden club circles, for whom the Marion Crosby Ferndale, a fern and wildflower garden at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens was named. He was educated at St. Mary's Academy in Norfolk, Mt. St. Joseph's College in Baltimore, and Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Crosby was resident surgeon in Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pa., from 1917 to 1918. During World War I, he was a member of the Army Medical Reserve Corps. Later he was a captain in the Virginia National Guard and chairman of the Disaster Relief and Preparedness Committee. Dr. Crosby was a former surgeon of the Hospital of St. Vincent de Paul, now De Paul Hospital, and a member of the staff of Leigh Memorial Hospital. He was also a former member of the gynecology consulting staff of Norfolk Municipal Hospital. He was also a former member of the board of the Family Welfare Association and the health and safety committee of the Norfolk Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was also an assistant chief of the Emergency Medical Services of the Office of Civilian Defense. A past commander of the Norfolk area American Legion and a member of the Third Degree, Knights of Columbus, Dr. Crosby was honored in 1966 as the Catholic Layman of the Year by the Father Robert B. Kealey Council, Knights of Columbus. The award is made annually to a Catholic layman of Norfolk on the basis of participation in civic, political, educational and cultural affairs or in any field which has contributed to the betterment of the community. He was also a member of the Tidewater Heart Association and chairman of its committee on extra-cardiac pulmonary resuscitation. In that capacity, he gave instructions to more than 5,000 people in Virginia in the reviving of people suffering from heart attacks. In 1950, he was named honorary surgeon of the Norfolk Fire Division by a resolution of the Norfolk City Council. A member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, he also was a member of the Norfolk County Medical Association and Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He was active for years in the Norfolk Chapter of the American Red Cross, St. Mary's Infant Home, Catholic Family and Children's Service and Norfolk Catholic High School. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hope Crosby Moessner of Norfolk; a son, Albert V. Crosby of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mrs. Marcellus Miller of Norfolk; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. The body will be taken from H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a funeral service Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Office of the Dead will be recited at the funeral apartments Thursday at 7:30 p.m. DEATHS CROSBY, DR. ALBERT V. - In a local hospital, Tuesday, Dr. Albert V. Crosby, widower of Mrs. Marion Parry Crosby, and son of the late Andrew Patrick and Mrs. Ellen Albert Crosby, in the 72nd year of his age. The body will be taken from H. D.
