The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark September 10, 1918

Mrs. Mary M. Cross, widow of John T. Cross, died suddenly at the residence of 
her brother-in-law, R.W. Pettit, on Redgate Avenue, yesterday afternoon at 
4:15 o’clock. Mrs. Cross was 64 years of age, was the daughter of the late 
William C. and Margaret S. Godfrey. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 
afternoon at 3 o’clock at the First Baptist Church. Friends of the family are 
invited to attend. Interment will be private. Mrs. Cross is survived by one 
sister, Mrs. R.W. Pettit, and her nephew, W.E. Pettit.
