CHESAPEAKE — Joseph Samuel Crowling Sr., 86, of 723 Harvey Ave. died Sunday at 9 
a.m, in an area hospital.
He was retired from Henry Walke Co. A lifelong resident of this area, he was the 
husband of Mrs. Catherine McGuire Crowling and a son of George W. and Mrs. Mary E. 
Crozier Crowling.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons, M. J. Crowling Sr. and George H. 
Crowling Sr. of Norfolk and Joseph S. Crowling Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Miss 
Mary E. Crowling of Norfolk; five grandsons; two granddaughters; and four great-
grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew’s Catholic 
Church. The Rosary will be recited tonight at 7 in the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, Norfolk. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions 
be made to the Heart Fund.
