Virginian Pilot December 11, 1898


December  11, 1898 - Sunday - As a result of the careless handling of a 
revolver GEORGE L. CRUSER, aged 28 years, shot himself yesterday afternoon at 3 
o'clock and died at St. Vincent's Hospital where he was promptly taken for 
treatment, at 6:30 p.m., having never regained consciousness after the bullet 
struck him.  Mr. Cruser, who was well-known in his neighborhood, having lived 
on Church street extended, he was in the saloon of N. B. Joynes, at the corner 
of Church and Calvert streets about 3 o'clock and picked up a revolver which 
someone laid upon the bar counter, and from which it was supposed all the 
cartridges had been removed, when, in handling it, there was an explosion, and 
Cruser was shot in the right eye.  He was instantly picked up and taken to St. 
Vincent's Hospital in the ambulance of that institution, where he received 
surgical attention, which was quite unavailing, the bullet having penetrated 
his brain, and from which he died at 6:30 o'clock.  The funeral will occur from 
the Christian Memorial Temple, Brambleton, at 3 o'clock p.m. today.  December 
13, 1898 - FUNERAL - The funeral of Mr. GEORGE L. CRUSER, the young man who 
accidentally shot himself Saturday afternoon, took place yesterday afternoon a 
3 o'clock from the Christian Memorial Temple in the presence of a large number 
of friends and sorrowing relatives.  The Rev. J.P. Barrett conducted the 
services and the remains were laid away in Elmwood
