Norfolk Virginian Pilot January 26, 1937

Michael Joseph Cummings, aged 86 years, father of Katherine Cummings Holahan, 
died early yesterday morning at a local hospital after an illness of three 
years. Mr. Cummings was born at Galway, Ireland, July 25, 1851, coming to 
America in 1872, and had been a resident of Norfolk for the past 64 years. He 
was a member of Tailor's Union, Local No. 40. He is survived by an only 
daughter, Mrs. Katherine Cummings Holahan; two grandsons, John J. Holahan, Jr. 
and Thomas V. Holahan; a nephew, John Cummings and a niece, Miss Annie Cummings, 
of Greensboro, N.C. Remains will be taken from H.D. Oliver's Funeral Apartments, 
610-12 East Freemason Street, to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for services 
tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Michael Joseph Cummings — Funeral services for Mr. Cummings, whose death 
occurred Monday, were held at 10 o'clock yesterday morning at Blessed Sacrament 
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leo J. Ryan, pastor, officiating. During the 
service Mrs. F. R. McLaughlin sang “Abide With Me," with Mrs. R. P. Smith, 
accompanist. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket 
was covered with a pall of Garcia Supreme, pink roses and fern. Interment was in 
St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Daniel Kiley, Charles Sullivan, George Hogan, R. Leslie 
Whitehead, Lester Sullivan, Charles Mahone, William J. Walsh and Charles Reilly.
