Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark March 9, 1916

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, wife of Capt. E.H. Cunningham, died at her home 
815 Holt Street, yesterday morning, following a long illness. She was highly 
esteemed in Norfolk where she had lived all her life. She was a member of St. 
Mary's Catholic Church, at which place the funeral will take place Friday at 10 
a.m., conducted by Rev. John Doherty, the pastor. 
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, a son, 
E.H. Cunningham, Jr.; a sister, Mrs. James H. Smith and four brothers, Joseph, 
John, Cornelius and Edward Clark, all of Norfolk.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cunningham took place yesterday at 10 a.m. at 
St. Mary’s Catholic church, conducted by Rev. John J. Doherty, and was largely 
attended. There were many floral offerings, the coffin being covered with a pall 
of white roses and smilax. "Lord, Thou Art My Protector," was sung by Mrs. James 
Hughes, and "Lead Kindly Light,” by Miss Mary Smith. Burial was in St. Mary’s 
cemetery, the pallbearers being: B. C. Henley and E. H. Scott, from the Virginia 
Pilots’ Association: T. S. Fitzgibbons, B. J. Thompson, W. E. Doherty, B. D. 
Melcher, John Mariner, M. McKevitt, R. M. Eastwood, Henry Billups, P. J. Riley 
and O. J. Egerton, citizens.
