She was born in Portsmouth on June 20, 1914, one of eight children of Etta Leena Minton Warren and John Lloyd Warren. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught and was a social worker in Southwestern Virginia, Portsmouth and the Washington, D.C. area. She married Samuel Franklin Curling Sr. of Norfolk in 1938. They moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1942 and lived in Northern Virginia. Mrs. Curling is survived by two daughters, Caroline Ferguson of Edinburgh, Scotland, Diane M. Curling of Reston, Va.; a son, Samuel F. Curling Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Cynthia M. Warren of Portsmouth; a brother, Elwood M. Warren of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A church service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smithfield, by the Rev. Macon Walton. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 493 S. Jackson St., Montgomery, Ala. 36104. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
