A native of Roper, N.C., she lived in the Portlock area 40 years. She was the wife of James W. (Babe) Curtis and a daughter of Steven and Mrs. Jeanette Ward Hufton. She was a member of St., Matthews Catholic Church, the Women's Club of St. Matthews, and worked in the nursery at St. Matthews a number of years. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Della Mariner of Edenton, N.C., Mrs. Bertha Hassell of Roper, and Mrs. Betty Guilford of Hampton; and three brothers, Dennis Hufton, Ellis Hufton, and Eddie Hufton of Roper. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Matthews Catholic Church by the Rev. Donfred Stockert. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The Office of the Dead will be read in Graham Funeral Home tonight at 8.
