September 2023 Marjorie Marie Nebb Curtis of Chesapeake, VA, left her body on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Norfolk County, VA, on August 28, 1928, to Jennie Louise Archer Nebb and Lawrence Nebb, Sr. She was a 1947 graduate of Portlock High School. Marjorie served the Catholic Diocese of Richmond for 27 years. During this time, she received her graduate degree from Loyola University New Orleans and served as Pastoral Associate, Justice and Peace Coordinator and Spiritual Director at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. She formed one of the first Grief Counseling Groups in the local area and was a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. She served as Chaplain for 19 years at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Marjorie (also known as “Tater Bug”) enjoyed painting, gardening and loved to travel with her good friend, Betty Doumar. Marjorie married Herbert Benjamin Curtis in 1947, and they enjoyed 62 years of love and happiness together. She was predeceased by Herbert, her parents, her brothers, Lawrence and George Nebb, an infant sister, Virginia, and daughter-in- law, Rebecca Lynn Curtis. She is survived by sons, Thomas Lynn Curtis and Herbert Rodney Curtis and wife Chari; a daughter, Katherine Curtis Wilton; nine grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Donald Lee Nebb and wife Cheryl; Janet Barrack and husband Billy; special son Fr. Frank Wiggins and family matriarch Donna Pitman. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Bert Pavon and wife Debbie, and Deneen Burden for providing care to Mom for the past year. A Wake will be held at 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23464. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Ln, Virginia Beach, 23464.
